Underclassmen
Meredith Green,
Mariska Livingston, and
Brooke Lowry practice for two hours everyday at Lake Shore High School to advance themselves in the sport. While doing so, they work every muscle in their body, build bonds with each other, and play around in the water.
Throughout their season, they have each set individual goals, knowing that they are in full control of their own lane. That focus on individual achievements had led to some great celebrations. Brooke has accomplished 33 seconds in her 50 yard freestyle and Mariska dropped from 2.18 to 2.02 in her 100 yard breaststroke. Injury has prevented
Meredith from competing, but she still shows up to practice to do what she can to perform after recovery.
Brooke Lowry said, "Practice is important. At the beginning of the season, I went into events wheezing, unable to breathe. I have came a long way since then."
The mental aspect of swim is just as important as the physical. Coach Wolff has been providing swim instruction for 32 years. He shared that belief in self is key. Self-efficacy improves goal setting and overall achievement.
Afterall, the only difference between try and triumph is a little umph.
