Beyond the blue waters of the pool, high school swimmers find a profound connection with the sport, one that goes far beyond the competition. For Freshman Allison Roy, swimming begins with a fundamental love for the water.

Allison developed this passion at an early age where the pool becomes a second home. It's not just about gliding through the water; it's about feeling an inexplicable sense of tranquility and freedom when submerged. This deep connection to the water began by swimming recreationally in her grandparent's pool, the SCS community pool, and with children she babysits for.

Around 10, Dad David Roy encouraged Allison to take a local swim class and that led to her joining a competitive swim club. Passion drives swimmers to set ambitious goals. Whether it's breaking a personal record, qualifying for championships, or mastering a challenging stroke, these goals give them a sense of purpose. Varsity Swim was one of those goals and she loves being a part of her well-rounded team. The bonds forged in the pool can last a lifetime, creating a sense of belonging that deepens her passion for the sport.

Allison shared, "All of us have a specialty, something we are good at. For Brooke Lowry it is freestyle, Meredith Green is great at backstroke, Mariska Livingston loves breaststroke, and I perform best in butterfly." She went on to explain how swim has been different for her. "It has been tough for me to stick with a specific sport because, once I get good enough, I get bored and stop."

Clearly, this is not the case with swim and she thrives on self-improvement. She wrote in her notes from the first meet: 200 medley relay-3rd leg-butterfly-57.36; 50 freestyle-37.12; 50 freestyle-37.12. She keeps this log as a way to track her own progress.
