Avery Ortiz began playing organized soccer when he was 9. His passion developed from his dad Berlis Ortiz who has played his entire life. From AYSO to Reign, Avery enjoys his team comprised of many Lake Shore and Lakeview friends. He practices 3 times per week at two hours per day with his team and dedicates more time at Gaffkee Park, a spot close to home.
His favorite soccer memory was watching the World Cup Final in 2022 when Lionel Messi scored twice, Argentina beat France! It was Messi's biggest dream to win the World Cup and Avery loved celebrating his victory from the screen. Avery's fortunate to have his real hero in his presence every single day; That person is his dad. He described Berlis as "tough, disciplined, and able to push me out of my comfort zone." Those attributes has helped Avery become one of the top scorers on his team.
Avery currently plays for Vardar, his Club-level team, and Lake Shore. He's looking to go next level, collegiate or professional, and will not stop putting in the work to reach his goals.
Coach Lount said, "When he is on the field, Avery plays with passion and wants to make Lake Shore a winning program. The entire team is improving every game and learning how to play at varsity level. Without any Seniors and many first-time players, development is the focus."
