Emma Stacy values athleticism, teamwork, performance, and creativity and for this reason she has chosen to be a part of our cheerleading program, fitting of the girl known for wearing Jojo bows everyday elementary and middle school. She claimed that they "matched perfectly with every outfit."
As a seasoned dancer at Rhythm N Jump Dance Academy since she was 3 years old, Emma wasn't necessarily looking for a change of pace. Her mom Kristy encouraged her to tryout, the coach coordinated both cheer and dance schedules, and the rest was history. Eventually Emma felt more passion for cheer and made the decision to step down from dance. She knew she would be able to use her strength, flexibility, agility, and endurance from dance classes to carry out the physical demands of performing high-flying stunts, tumbling passes, and routines in the flyer position.
Emma has had her fair share of setbacks and triumphs, making it to regionals during her Sophomore year and placing in the top 10, but spraining her ankle twice that year. Her Junior year felt like her best year personally and she credits it to a really great stunt group. Her aim this year? She wants to make it to State Finals. And Coach T, her dad Anthony, and her team will keep pushing to get there. Emma said, "I love cheer. It requires me to depend on my team and grow close with my teammates. I enjoy getting thrown around in the air. It is just really fun."
Emma is known as Little Miss Sunshine on her team. She's always laughing and always positive. Coach Taormina noted that "Emma is truly such a leader by example in all that she does athletically, academically, but also her ethics in life. Emma is poised and mature, and treats all people with care and kindness. What more could you want in a teammate? She is such a joy to coach and to be around." Cheerleaders play a crucial role in supporting teams and boosting morale. Emma plays a key role in helping energize crowds and creating an exciting atmosphere at games and events. Both Emma, and another senior teammate
Teressa Leahy, were both recognized and awarded the prestigious "Kim Kaye Scholarship" at cheer camp this summer, totaling $16,000 for each athlete. The entire team also earned one of 5 large awards named "The Spirit of a Champion," so they are well on their way to have amazing sideline and competitive seasons!
