Junior
Grace Schmidt is a natural athlete. She has excellent coordination, agility, and strength. She picks up new skills and techniques rapidly, adapting to different sports or activities with ease. She's exceled in ballet, tennis, swim, basketball, and soccer. She's highly motivated, driven by a desire to improve and succeed, and she thrives in competitive environments. She also maintains concentration and composure under pressure. She's been thrown into these activities without friends which has forced her to create new relationships. It is apparent that there's always a tribe formed around Grace. She is loved, supported, and a volleyball star.
It began with a nudge from her cousin, who played volleyball in college. She tried out for her 7th grade team at Kennedy Middle School, caught the "volleyball bug", and the rest was history. She enjoys the momentum and flow of the game. She described, "It is super high paced and exciting when the rally goes back and forth,"
Grace made the Junior Varsity team as a Freshman and loved Coach Taylor, but she knew she would have to continue to put in the work to make a year-round club team and compete at a high level. With a gym in her basement and influence from the popular YouTube channel called The Kneesovertoesguy, she continues working on bettering herself through conditioning.
Her specialty is her serve and it can be described as fire!
Over the Summer, Grace participated in a LSPS Volleyball Camp and reflected on her experience. She wrote, "It was great! There was a little over 40 middle schoolers so it was good that my coach recruited the returning varsity players including Madi P, Grace V, Sophia V, Lauren M, Lillian M, and Brooklyn to help out. We demonstrated the drills for them and then would observe how they were at the skill and if they needed it we would offer assistance. I loved being able to help out the younger girls and teaching them skills that have to do with the sport that I love."
