Speed, Strength & School Records in Sight

Ryann Lambert found her love for running early, starting in elementary school before taking a break in middle school. Now a school-of-choice junior, she returned to the track after being encouraged by teacher Mr. Mantela during her freshman year basketball season. He noticed her speed and athleticism and knew she would succeed in track.

Ryann competes in the 100m, 200m, relays, high jump, and long jump, and is now a three-year varsity athlete. One of her favorite memories was qualifying for states at Regionals last year. She also set a PR at the Oakland University PR Tag Meet in the long jump — on an extremely hot day.

She credits her friend and teammate, Lacy Walker, for pushing her to train harder and stay motivated. Along with track, Ryann also plays basketball.

After high school, Ryann hopes to become a mechanical engineer while staying connected to sports. Her big goal this season is clearing 5'5" in the high jump, which would set a new school record. She currently jumps 5'2".

Ryann describes herself as confident, believing track is about competing against the clock and trusting that you can PR every time you step on the track.

Braylon Hempstead, a junior, joined track to improve his conditioning and overall speed. He competes in the 400m, 200m, and 4x400 relay. Braylon first started running track in 8th grade at Kennedy Middle School and transferred to Lake Shore Public Schools in 7th grade.

His favorite memory is competing at the MAC Championship at Sterling Heights — his first time running at that meet, surrounded by great energy and competition.

Braylon is inspired by 2025 Lake Shore graduate Desmond Buford-Jackson and values the support of Lake Shore alumni, who help him with block starts, transitions, and competition training.

In addition to track, Braylon loves football and is excited for the upcoming season under new Head Coach Savage. After graduation, he hopes to pursue a career in sports broadcasting.

Braylon describes himself as hardworking; He's always pushing himself to stay consistent and be the best he can be.

We're proud of both of these student-athletes for their dedication, leadership, and commitment to getting better every day!
